The Government of India has introduced Direct Tax Code Bill 2009 http://finmin.nic.in/DTCode/ This bill is introduced as a measure to simplify the Income Tax Act 1961. However, while drafting the new Bill, the Government of India is introducing Special Provisions relating to Non-profit Organizations. Several new provisions that would hamper the donations, sustainability and overall management of Voluntary Organizations in India are introduced in this Direct Tax Code Bill 2009. In order to muster public support, Civil Society Organizations are working towards signature campaign and appeal with the Government of India to continue the existing provisions and to give up the new provisions added in the Direct Tax Code Bill 2009.
