ILP Partners Meet, Aug 7-9 2008

Universalization of Secondary Education

ILP Partners Meet - Aug 7-9th 2008, Hyderabad, India

Every year, ILP brings together the passionate NGO minds that partner with us to execute our projects at the grassroots. This meet is a forum for our partners to discuss their program activities, policies and share knowledge of various government schemes. The partners meet in 2005 focused on Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) enabling our partner NGO's to work on Universal Elementary Education in partnership with community. The 2006 meet focused on the importance of early child care has resulted in programs supporting Anganwadis. 2007 meet focused on working with School Development Monitoring Committee(SDMC) / Village Education Committee(VEC) to improve learning atmosphere in schools. Improving the quality of learning with the help of VECs / SDMCs is a long drawn process and our efforts in this direction will continue.

The theme for this year's meet is Universalization of Secondary Education(USE) and the role we can play at the grassroots as well as at the Government policy level. Secondary education is much talked about subject after the CABE June 2005 report. However nothing much has happened at the grassroots level and the situation demands that Secondary education be made accessible to children. Very few NGOs have worked on USE and the voice of civil society organisations is yet to be raised to pressurize government to bring USE under SSA mode or set in motion the ambitious Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan with immediate effect.

With the focus on Universalization of Secondary Education, ILP Partners Meet will be held Aug 7th - 9th 2008 at Hyderabad, India.
