PPT - Education for Tribal Children

Objective: Ensure tribal children in this area are enrolled and retained in school.

The population of this area is primarily Yanadi tribes. There is a very high degree of illiteracy amidst these tribes. Less than 6% of the women in these tribes are literate.

With the goal of enrolling children in pre-schools and schools, ensuring that they are learning well the following activities will be undertaken.

    • Work with government to get proper Pre Schools  with infrastructure
    • Enrollment campaigns by door to door visit 
    • Involve mothers in school, by having meetings and talking to them
    • Training school teachers and workers
    • Provide Learning Materials to centers
  • Schools
    • Provide learning materials and sports equipment
    • Conduct additional classes to help improve learning levels
    • Create awareness amidst parents to send children to school
    • Provide Bicycles to children, especially girls to promote education
    • Arrange for other transport options
    • Employ additional para teachers focus on children’s attendance, enrollment
    • Conduct additional classes to help improve learning levels
    • Create awareness amidst parents about child marriages

ILP is partnering with Praja Pragati Trust for this project. This organization is headed by M. Srinivasulu, who is very experienced, involved in development work, working with Yanadhi tribe (equivalent to Irulas in TN and Mushar in Bihar). The organization has close contacts, rapport and working with these tribes on their livelihood, Self Help Group formation, NREGA and other aspects.
