Project Description

The project aimed to achieve 100% literacy in the age group of 3-35 years. The project targets were:
• 0-6 years (child nutrition & pre-school): 6,231 children
• 6-14 years (enroll and retain children in primary & high schools): 12,396 children
• > 14 years non-literates: Literacy programs for 13,807 people

Program Roadmap

• Eradicate and prevent future illiteracy through Anganwadis and schools
• Develop adult education centers for literacy within productive population
• Successful implementation of Government programs
• Sarva-shiksha abhiyan (SSA) funding for infrastructure, and Continuing Education Centers
• Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) for mid-day meal scheme
• Active Community organizations
• School Development Monitoring Committees
• Bala Vikas Samithis
• Self-Help Groups (SHGs)

• ILP Funds:
(Rs. 29,13,771) 2.37%

• First convergence model in Karnataka covering 40 villages in 12 gram panchayaths with 59 primary schools and 79 Anganawadis
• 100% enrollment in the 3-6 years age group (1993 children)
• 100% transition from pre-school to primary
• 99% enrollment in 6-14 years age group
• 80% attendance

Sudarshan, honorary secretary of Karuna Trust, was presented an award by the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) for his outstanding contribution and commitment to protecting the right to health of the vulnerable and less privileged communities, and his dedication to strengthening primary health care at the grass roots level with the aim of securing the fundamental needs of indigenous people.
