•  Target area includes 11 panchayaths with 50 villages having 26 government lower primary schools, 26 higher primary schools and 1 high school

Project Description

This project aims to improve the school environment and ensure all children are in school and studying well. The project is titled Nammura Shale Andholana (Our village School Movement.) SNEHA is working in 50 villages spread across 10 Grama Panchayaths. The goal is to involve the community in school management for sustainable enrollment and retention, and to identify child labor and motivate them to join schools.

Project Roadmap

•  Activities include capacity building of School Development and Monitoring Committees (SDMC), greater participation of CBOs like SHGs and organizing them as Mahila Shikshana Okkoota ( Women's forum for Education) and garnering common people's support by holding Oni Sabha (street/ lane meetings) in every village.
•  Helping government teachers to organise chinnara angala program (a program of education department to motivate drop out children to come back to school) in the villages
•  Complement government efforts by supporting para teachers in schools to improve teacher student ratios

Accomplishments

•  Average enrollment of 95% in almost all schools with ~90% retention and 75% regular attendance
•  Mid-day meal scheme regularized and monitored by community. Community also contributes other material needs in many villages
•  40 schools have functional SDMCs with regular meetings being organized
