ILP's Petition Drive to prevent Politicization of SDMCs

Latest Update >>>

As you all may be aware , as per the recent letter ( August 07 2004 ) of the Principal Secretary, Primary and Secondary Education, Government of Karnataka to the Commissioner for Public Instructions, the constitution of School Development and Monitoring Committees (SDMCs) is now the choice of the MLA. This is political interference in local school functioning.

In a recent Dialogue Meet, organized by the Centre for Child and the Law, National Law School India University,(NLSIU), Bangalore, with SDMC representatives, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs,) support agencies, educationists, and researchers, have unanimously opposed the state government's move to politicise the SDMC constitution process by allowing it to the choice of MLAs.

As part of the decision of the above Dialogue Meet, a State Level Delegation will soon be meeting up with the Chief Minister, GOK, pressurizing the government to withdraw the Principal Secretary's letter dtd., 7th August 2004 and to issue a new Order / Circular allowing the functioning of more democratic structure at school level (Similar to the Government's circular dtd. 28.04.2001).

To realize this, we all need to join our hands and work together. You may support this movement through various actions in your own working constituency /area for mobilizing community support.

  • Sign the petition in support of the campaign to the Chief Minister -Government of Karnataka and other concerned, requesting immediate withdrawal of the government's move to politicize SDMC constitution process.
  • Organizing/facilitating discussion on the issue at village/school level.
  • Educating panchayat members and people's representatives on the issue and seeking their support at various levels.
  • Further dissemination of information to other groups like (NGOs, SHGs, SDMCs, community etc..)
  • Participation in the State Level Delegation
  • Any other action that you feel more effective and meaningful in realizing the goal.
