Region Demographics
Bellary district is located in north-central Karnataka. The district consists of 7 blocks (taluks), including Kudligi, the target area for this initiative. The region is characterized by high levels of illiteracy and prevalence of child labor and social inequalities. Health care and early childhood education for children of 0-6 years age is poor in the villages. Parents do not take care of enrollment of their children resulting in children being out of school. There is a high rate of school drop outs. Aspects like a good environment for child participation in schools. opportunity for rural children to have knowledge about child rights/human rights, opportunity for rural children to improve their life coping skills are lacking. School teacher attendance, quality of learning levels of children are not monitored by the School Developcommunity. Civic Ammenities Committee of grama panchayaths and other grama panchayath members are not taking the responsibility of village school development.
