Two years ago, Gabasavalagi Anganwadi Center in Vijayapura stood as a quiet corner of the village — with just 6–7 children attending regularly, no structured routine, and little community engagement. The Anganwadi had potential, but it needed direction, encouragement, and trust.

With support from our partner NGO SNEHA, the transformation began — not with quick fixes, but by building trust. The team started by simply listening, spending time at the centre to understand its everyday challenges. Instead of imposing solutions, they worked alongside the staff, offering training in pre-school education (PSE) and consistent guidance. Slowly, confidence built-up, routines took shape, and a sense of purpose began to take root.

The changes came slowly, then all at once.

Children started coming in greater numbers. Daily activities found a rhythm. Today, around 30 children attend the AWC regularly — a space that now echoes with stories and learning.

But perhaps the most powerful shift has come from the community itself. Local families and leaders came forward — not just with support, but with belief. They contributed ₹58,200 to equip the centre with teaching-learning materials, child-friendly furniture, uniforms, a water filter, sound system, fire safety tools, and even resources to begin a small kitchen garden.

Officials — including the EO, CDPO, ACDPO, and Supervisor — visited and praised the staff’s dedication and children’s engagement. The Anganwadi Worker and Helper speak with pride today, not just about the centre’s progress, but about the partnership that made it possible.

With community support and consistency this transformation became not just possible — but sustainable.
