When Prema Kulekumatag, An Anganwadi teacher first stepped into Anganwadi center No. 7 in Korwar village in 2020-21, she was met with silence. There was no structured timetable, no infrastructure, and only six children attending sporadically. The community showed little interest, and the center barely functioned. But Prema saw not just what was missing—she saw what could be.

Determined to bring the Anganwadi to life, she went door-to-door, speaking with parents about the importance of early childhood education. She didn’t just explain—she listened. She understood their concerns, their struggles, and their hopes for their children. Slowly, trust began to build.

She introduced engaging preschool education (PSE) activities, making learning exciting and interactive. She organized meetings, spoke at community gatherings, and ensured her presence was felt beyond the walls of the center. Her persistence paid off. Attendance grew, and soon, the once-empty Anganwadi was filled with curious children eager to learn.

But Prema didn’t stop there. She rallied support from the Gram Panchayat and local residents, who stepped in to transform the center. A compound was built, electricity was installed, and clean drinking water was provided. With their help, she secured uniforms, racks for storage, a sound system, and even fresh paint to brighten the space.

Today, this Anganwadi Cetner is unrecognizable from where it started. With 25 children attending regularly, it stands as a model of what is possible when dedication meets community support. In 2023, a ₹75,000 donation from the community helped further enrich the learning experience with high-quality teaching materials.

Prema’s journey is more than just the story of an Anganwadi’s revival—it’s a testament to the impact of one person’s vision, perseverance, and unwavering belief in the power of education.
