When children struggle with foundational reading and mathematics skills, timely support can make all the difference. That is where Vidya Saathis step in, supporting children to build strong foundations in language and mathematics.

But becoming a Vidya Saathi requires more than academic qualifications. The role calls for patience, commitment, strong communication skills, and a genuine desire to work with children.

To identify the right candidates, applications are invited from local youth within the community. Shortlisted applicants undergo a written assessment in language and mathematics, followed by a personal interview that evaluates their conceptual understanding, motivation, commitment to community service, and willingness to support young learners.

This careful selection process helps ensure that children are guided by individuals who not only understand what they teach but can also inspire confidence and create a positive learning environment.

The impact extends far beyond the classroom. Children receive the support they need to strengthen foundational skills and become more confident learners.

Vidya Saathis gain valuable leadership, communication, and teaching experience while contributing to the development of their own communities. Families become more engaged in their children’s education, and communities take greater ownership of learning outcomes.

The journey to becoming a Vidya Saathi may begin with a written test and an interview, but it’s true impact is seen in children who read with confidence, tackle mathematics with greater ease, and believe in their ability to learn and succeed.

Special thanks to our NGO partner, Unified Action Council (UAC), for leading the recruitment, selection, and monitoring process with dedication and care, ensuring that every Vidya Saathi is well-equipped to support children’s learning journeys.
