The early years shape how children experience learning. In Chitradurga, ILP’s Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) programme under the Karnataka Model School Pathways Programme (KMSPP) is transforming 70 Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) into vibrant, enabling spaces. By introducing child-friendly artwork, Building as Learning Aid (BaLA) elements, upgraded WASH facilities, and training teachers to use new Teaching-Learning Materials (TLMs), we are making early education far more engaging for young learners.

The impact of these improvements is already visible in the numbers. Enrolment across these 70 AWCs has surged by 19.8%, growing from 1,410 children in 2024–25 to 1,689 in 2026–27. The story is especially powerful at the Kavadigarahatti AWC, where regular attendance skyrocketed from around 70% to 95–100%—proving that better spaces and tools directly translate to eager, highly engaged students.

But lasting change goes beyond individual classrooms; it creates a ripple effect across the system. In collaboration with local government departments, 55 officials have been trained as Master Resource Persons, and teachers from neighbouring non-KMSPP centres are now visiting to observe and adapt these classroom practices. The real measure of success isn’t just what improves in one centre, but what the wider system begins to embrace.
